how to obtain a copy of divorce papers

Hello, my friends brother recently passed away. To sort out his affairs as next of kin, he needs a divorce decree absolute for his brother. Due to being unsure of the date that he got married and unable to contact his ex wife to find out. Can anyone help with how he can find out, and where he can obtain this information and ultimately get the a copy of the decree.Free sites would be a bonus.

Sadly he doesn't know where his brother got divorced.

Thank you so much

Your friend needs to contact the principal registry of the family division which is the central uk court. They have a register of all the decree absolutes. There is usually a fee of £60.00 for the search and I think £5 for a copy decree absolute. Tel: 020 7947 7017 (decree absolute searches) or 020 7947 6000 (switchboard).
