Sorry that this is not a freebie, but I have a feeling that some other MSE'rs could be affected and here is a good place to find help.
I just got 2 emails from 2 companies that I use, these being seefilmfirst and PC world customer service. They both had the same subject title 'Take a look at my photos on facebook' and I just got automated replies from these 2 companies. The replies say that I have been cancelled of a cinema screening and the other says that we will deal with your query shortly. I checked my sent emails and nothing was sent to these companies within this week. I also looked at the email addresses that they came from and they appear to have come from the legitimate email addresses. Have I been hacked/is this spam? What should I do?!?

Hope your not overly concerned, but if you are, this is what I would do:
Take a copy of the email and subject line (ctrl and C key or ctrl and A key),
Then go to the website of the company that emailed you
Paste the email to them (ctrl V key) ask them whjat it was about.
It could be that your email account has simply hidden details from the site as they think it could be scam (most email accounts do not like the word "facebook" for obvious reasons so could be why) or it could be an error on their part- maybe the companies are linked and their whole email system is experiencing errors? If you are worried, theres only really one way to work it out- email them.0 -
MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.:hello:0 -

Im assuming they send you to a webpage that looks like the facebook logon page? They trying to steal your logon details.
Could be spoofed email addresses. Or even as simple as using letters/numbers that look similar, like 1 instead of I or 0 instead of O.
You should find out the genuine email address and contact the company to inform them of whats happend. DO NOT trust the emails you recieved.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Strider also means to advise you that you should of course NOT click the 'click here' enticements IN the emails themselves. Merely launch a browser window, or separate tab (this is important as some browsers pass on forwarding information, which sometimes has usernames and passwords embedded in it which they will get if your browser is set in such a way). So separate tab, then simply type the address into the Address bar.
Also the advice 'Hope your not overly concerned, but if you are, this is what I would do: Take a copy of the email and subject line (ctrl and C key or ctrl and A key)' = Ridiculous advice, you should NEVER and I mean NEVER tell spammers they got a hit off an address. All those 'unsubscribe here' links you see in emails of this type are nothing more than an invite to send more spam. It's like saying 'Oi, I've confirmed this address works... now stop sending me this stuff'. Meanwhile the spammer is thinking 'idiot - now I know this address works, so is infact worth more money!
So only a n00b would give such advice and only an idiotic n00b would follow it.
Keep safe out there, the internet isn't a toy. If you get messages such as these and you've not contacted them. Ignore them, wait for the company to get in touch, afterall they'll have your phone number if you had contacted them. So what's the problem.
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
Id like to add, that if you have used any links to log into facebook..... Go to the genuine facebook site and change your password NOW!!“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Hi WM - may not be of particular help but thought would post just in case - I had something similar and the source seemed to be an (I think, American) company selling electrical goods. Started getting e-mails connected to Face book (even though I wasn't on Facebook myself).
My laptop has crashed since - not as a result I hasten to add - but just to say I can't remember exactly what it was and can not get back to the stuff to check it for you.
I didn't get any viruses - what actually happened was that everybody i had ever sent an e-mail to whether regularly or as a one off got an e-mail supposedly from me purporting to endorse (in otherwise advertising) the electrical equipment.
I sent a block e-mail to everyone telling them not to to open it or if they already had ( - some people did as had loads e-mailing me saying they had received a weird e-mail from me & to be careful) not to click on any links.
I was really worried as i thought if someone had got all my e-mail addresses they must have hacked in and could access everything. This wasn't the case - although it generated the e-mails, no-one had actually (it seems) - 'hacked in' as such. Posted on the 'techie' board for advice.
Nothing else happened to me or anyone who got the e-mails - it seemed just to be an advertising ploy.
As it turned out my anti virus stuff had expired without me realising ( so check yours) or it prob. would not have happened otherwise.
Suffered no ill effects. Although this is meant to be reassuring in a way - yours may not be the same so just follow all advice you can get and be wary!!!!!!
Good luck and all the best !!!!!!!!!0
