Advice please for newbie!!

Options
Hi all! A friend recommended this site and i cant believe i havent found you b4 now!!
I would really be grateful for some advice please! I am 36 and a single mum on income support! For some years i have had a lot of problems with my knees(probably due to running pubs for years! I was born in a pub and pulling pints as soon as i was tall enough to reach!!) and recently was diagnosed with severe arthrytis in both knees. Im due for an op next month. I have trouble getting up stairs and out of the chair I cant walk very far at all. I was driving but have recently stopped as my car has a few gears and i cant change gear!! Sometimes my left knee gives way and locks. Anyway im so confused about disability and incapacity which i understand dosent even exist anymore!! My question is would i be entitled to any other benefit as i have been told that due to my daughter being aged 10 my income support will stop in oct this year! Many many thanks for reading and i appreciate any answers kel

DLA might be an option best thing to do is go to citizens advice and see what they recommend

while you are sorting out DLA options goto the doctors and get them to put you on long time sick (via sick notes) then contact the job centre and get them to move you on to income support for sickness. that will keep you on benifits and help towards DLA

The new benefit ESA,which replaces incapacity benefit is about what you are able to do & not what you're not able to do as it was with incapacity benefit. S

You may be able to qualify for DLA, but should consult an experienced welfare rights advisor about this.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

You can no longer make a new claim for IS due to sickness, the OP would need to claim ESA.
