Abbey Advice for beginner

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Hi, I have been incurring charges for Abbey for several years and paying it off monthly, however it all came to a head last year when I broke down on the phone to them and explained that I was not working and was now a carer for my disabled daughter and that I had no means of paying off the balance (can't remember the amount but it was trivial). I had to give up my bank card, but my account stayed open, despite me not using it since 2006. They were fairly sympathetic at the time to me agreeing a zero balance. The problem is since that time they deduct £25.00 from my account monthly. I get statements each month that are multiplying what I have been told by their debt advisors is not to deal with this in the branch but to phone them every few months to clear the balance. I find it soul destroying to do this each time to clear my name each time, and it is costing me in phonebills.

The first thing I want to do is to reclaim the charges for the overdraft fees, how many years are you allowed to go back?

With this eternal overdraft hanging over me will this affect my credit rating?

Also they have my name wrong on my statement which is a side issue, I have been banking with them for 25 years and to get this wrong is such a bug-bear of mine.

I have a small amount of shares going in there each quarter that I have to retrieve somehow but can't find the mandate to move the money into my new account. Long story, but there is a way around this. Once I have done this then I can close my account (once the charges have been reclaimed).

Any advice on these matters welcomed.
thank you

It sounds like you may be looking at a reclaim under financial hardship. It is 6 years that you can go back. Good luck.
Got Halifax Classic to reduce my interest rate by 5% woohoo - 10/06/08 Thanks MSE!
    Another 3% shaved off 10/12/08

July 2001 is how far you can go back.
Google "Registrars" and the name of the share company and write to them to change the account they pay into.......is it not wise to sell the shares since clearly it might be better in your hands or is that not possible?
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009
