Thanks taxiphil for pointing that out. I had not realised and it does make a difference. Probably why the stores do this to catch people out. The milk we usually buy from Tesco is alway 2.27 litres.0

Interesting thread. For meat I get most of mine in the local co-op as they are the only supermarket near me that not only do deep reductions on their short dated meat, but also the till will take off the 2 for £5 reductions, which are almost always running. Occasionally they call a manager to over ride, but usually I get all my meat for pennies and freeze it. Not organic though I still get organic milk and a veg box. Bit of a compromise.
Anyway, is there a market near you? As that is another great place to get fruit and veg that is tasty and cheap.
I also love approved food- especially for packed lunch stuff. At the moment for instance 3 Ocean spray grapefruit juice for £1. With delivery, but if you get a big order together its worth it. Also, you have to keep looking to catch the best things when they come in. And not care about best before dates.:p0
