zero feedback - how to cancel a bid

Options
I placed an item for sale yesterday with clear instructions that new bidders with zero feedback email me first. The first person to bid is .......new with zero feedback - is there any way I can cancel their bid?

I did a search on ebay but couldn't find details of how to. Do you think it looks bad to do this? My theory is if they can't follow simple instructions how do I know they are going to pay!

Thanks.

I have had exactly the same problem - 99% of new bidders simply do not read what you put in the advert. Every new bidder of course deserves a chance, and I always contact them if they have made a bid and not contacted me. I also say that bidders rated less than 5 must pay by cheque to safeguard me from unscrupilous buyers and chargebacks (I know in reality it makes little difference, but it makes most bidders think twice).

I have only ever had one 0 rated bidder win an auction... and they didn't pay.

I sold a camera lens to a zero bidder last month - I checked what else they were bidding on and it was all (fairly obscure) camera stuff. For some reason, this gave me confidence, as I felt a scammer would be bidding on more mainstream items. Anyway, he paid immediately by Paypal, left f/b the following day within a couple of hours of receiving the lens and I left him great f/b. Sometimes we can get TOO paranoid, we all started somewhere. ;)

I'm happy with Newbie buyers as well as they tend to be reall ypleased when they win and pay very quickly as they want their stuff.

My last two Negs for NPBs were to a 300+ and a 176+ feedback user respectively.

Thanks for the replies - i probably am being paranoid however the last thing I sold was to a newbie who left it over a week to pay & didn't reply to emails so left me wondering what was going on (it was an item that had an expiry date so I thought incorrectly that he was messing me about).

It made me realise that you could be wasting your time when they have no feedback to worry about spoiling.

With paypal it can take a while to set up so like smartie1975 I think I'm going to ask for cheques.

I have noticed another problem - I'd like to amend the description as I think it may get missed by some searches but i can't with a bid now unless I cancel the bid. I'm tempted to do so.

With newbies, I always ask them to contact me before bidding, with a contact (landline) number. Depending on the price of the item (ie if its high value), I actually do give them a call to verify them. I'm also getting a bit strict in cancelling bids from newbies if they don't contact me in advance (however only really enforce it if the item is high value). If its, say selling an old DVD I don't really bother and let the auction run its course.

I've had my first newbie winning an auction, 10 days later I've heard nothing despite sending 5 emails. I've also just noticed they are in Canada and the item was UK only..... pain in the bum. :naughty:

Its really annoying when you have to wait around not knowing if they are serious or not - I've had several payments so late I've almost given up & relisted. Now I give 5 days to pay or I relist.

I've decide to cancel the listing & relist with a better description now back to 0 bids again.

Got to say i have had problems and bad feedback from ppl i least expected to get from. I normally dont worry unless i,m selling something which is classed as highly scammable or of high value then i will try to contact the buyer and make sure his genuine and is aware of the requirements .

best thing to do is go into my ebay ont the menu on the left click on Preferences under the heading my account then under seller preferences click on bidding requirements here you can sort out who you allow to pid this has helped me having to re-list cameras and mobiles from Nigerians and people who have bad feedback or just opened accounts its a life saver for expensive products on buy it now.
