The update is that one return visit later, one discussion with a manager (I wouldn't even contemplate a conversation with customer services this time) I received both a refund and a full apology. He seemed horrified that the sales adviser should have suggested any customer would set out to deliberately gain extra points. I suspect the member of staff in question will be hearing about it. He also confirmed that the reason for asking for the clubcard was merely to make the process faster however it certainly was not the only option for processing a refund.

Product recalls don't require receipts. This is part of the training that they should receive.

Maybe not, but in the past when I worked for a highstreet jeweler I regularly had to apologize to customers for the behavior of my manager, which was, in all honesty truly shocking...the man should have been sacked years ago (has had numerous complaints against him from staff and customers alike).

I'm with MRCOW on this one - they would have had to fling me out of the store if I didnt receive my money back there and then.
This is one of the reasons Tesco are such a disgustingly rich company.

I ventured into one of those small Tescos today and will never go in this particular one again. There was a fairly large queue at the checkout, there were the 2 self service tills and the one till manned by a Male assistant. A supervisor came in on shift and asked said Male where are the rest of staff to which he replied loudly " how the fxxxk would I know I have been stuck behind here all morning" The supervisor laughed at him and remarked that the Heat must be getting to him!!!!!

I found his language unacceptable as there were a couple of elderly people and children in the store and for a supervisor to laugh at his remark was shocking. Needless to say I have complained and was told that it was harmless banter between staff:rolleyes: Not the kind of banter I want to listen to so I shall vote with my feet and avoid Tesco in future.
:j I have a persecution complex. Everytime I pass a shoe shop they persecute me till I buy them:j

Well have a glass of water then.

I was going to say the same because I always thought spitting feathers means you are thirsty! However, looking it up on the phrase dictionary, it can also mean angry...

I know, not really relevant to the thread, but interesting nonetheless!

I had some customer service issues with Tesco recently (won't go into them now) but I decided to email my complaint to their head office. I got a response to say they would send me a refund for the goods that had gone off before their use by date (only part of my complaint) but I had to chase them up a week later as had not received anything. They then sent me a £10 giftcard as compensation! I thought that was OK.

Im pretty sure that Tesco now request Clubcards for any product returns even if it is just a change of mind, as they are wanting to trace the type of things that are being returned and the reasons why etc etc
They can collate all of this info and run reports and stuff. Im pretty sure though that its not the most important thing, and that if you dont have it there shouldnt have been a problem at all!!
