Refused credit card - is it my fault???

Apologies if this is in the wrong place.
My boyfriend applied for a capital one CC and has been refused, they have implied in the letter that it is his financial linking that is to blame (linking to me!)
I am at the mo on a dmp with CCCS, but my b/f and I do have a joint savings account with the halifax - web saver (not much in there as I cant contribute at the mo) as we are hoping to save a little to move in together in the future. We also had a car on finanace in joint names but that was settled about a month ago, no missed/late payments or anything, in fact he settled in full after having the car for just four months.
He is self employed and earns approx £25000 per year with no other debt other than household expenses.
Would we be better closing our joint savings account and just letting my b/f have it in his name if his credit rating is going to be shot to pieces because of me?
Hope someone can help!
Thanks

The financial association will still be on your CRA files, so little point in closing the account to try to disassociate yourself.0
-
But it is still worth closing the account and then have the financial connection (association) removed from the credit files:

Thanks both of you for your replys, I was under the impression (wrongly) that a savings account would be ok , looks like we will have to close the joint account and try and have the financial connection removed.
many thanks0 -
Order £2 files and check them before closing the account. Possibly it is some other financial association that you are not aware of.0

The saving account is a red herring don't as it is not reports to CRAs so worry about it - I expect the FA would have been created when you jointly applied for the car finance0
