Council Tax payable ??

I have built a small second home. Seemed better than B.S. Interest rates ? (Mmm maybe not!!) Anyway..it's nearly finished. What I want to know is if I finish it and obtain Completion Cert. from council but leave it empty and unfurnished would I be liable to pay council tax on the property. If so I will just extend the building warrant and leave it unfinished until market improves. Thanks

Councils can issue completion notice before building is complete, giving a date on which they expect it to be completed, or substantially completed. A dwelling which is empty and unfurnished has 6 months exemption from payment of CT, after which it is subject to payment of 50% of CT.

If I've got this wrong, a fellow poster - CIS - will correct me.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

I know empty and unfurnished = no council tax. How long for though, I'd suggest a quick call to your local office. It may vary from place to place?

It's definately fixed, to discourage landlords from leaving houses sitting empty
