Should a DVD in a TV/DVD Combi be noisy?

I know - it is a pretty stupid question but my sons had portable TV/VCR Combis which we had no problems with at all until one of them broke beyond repair. We decided to replace it with a TV/DVD combi instead.

Once we set it up I was surprised how "noisy" the DVD was. I can honestly say I have never noticed any noise from our ordinary DVD player and am not sure if this is normal or we have a faulty machine.

I know when we put CDs or DVDs into our PC you can hear them whizzing round and this is what the Combi sounds like.

The noise was loud enough that we had to turn the volume up to drown it out.

I suggested we use it for the next day or so to see if it will quieten down but to be honest I don't think it will.

Is this normal?

I wouldn't say its faulty.. just maybe "unlawfully" loud as so to speak.

Like many cd drivers for computers, some are quiet, but there are lots which sound like rockets with a cd in. Not nice I know, but as long as the disk works fully, its not a faulty machine!

You could try taking it back as faulty depending on where you got it from? After all... the people in the shop wont care too much :P

I have the same problem with my bedroom combi. What make is the combi? mine is Goodmans which is a cheap make.
I also have mine attached to the wall on a bracket, and I think if I had it on a more solid base it would be less noisy?

    Hi

Mines is a cheap one too - it is an Alba and like you it is in the bedroom. It is on top of a chest of drawers so it is on a solid base.

Maybe it is a case of just getting what you pay for but I was just not expecting to be able to hear it whizzing round.

I bought it from Asda so will see how my son gets on with it - if he can put up with it or not and if not then will take it back and see what they say.

Thanks both of you for your help.
