It was perfectly safe to make up bottles in advance in 2004 LOL.

The rules seem to change every year :D
One suggestion you've been given to make up 24 hours of feeds & keep in fridge is rather old, & whilst my MIL says this is what she did, it was not advised 7 years ago when I had my first.

Then we were 'allowed' to sterilise bottles, fill with once boiled then slightly cooled water, & seal the bottles. These were considered safe for 24 hours. Powder was added when needed, & then each freshly made bottle was warmed if baby desired.

I've continued to do this for each child. Only when I've forgotten, have I had to follow the current advice & boil the kettle again. Great fun with a screaming child!

Why have you given up on your steam steriliser? They are much easier than milton. Once the bottles, teats etc are sterile, make them up & seal them. They then stay sterile for the day if assembled.

Whichever method you use, if you are taking out a bottle for the day, you do not need to resterilise it before use when out. Sterilise, assemble then put it in your bag. Either fill with water at home, & take out a container of powder, or take an instant carton with you.

my son will be 8 weeks tomorrow. at first i was making a days worth, filling with water, leaving them on the side and putting the formula in as and when needed.

past couple of weeks tho ive just been making the feeds up whole and putting them in the fridge.

if we go out, i use the ready made cartons. i just take an empty sterilised bottle/s with me.

This is something we have been told should not be done.

All i can say is it never did me, my 3 brothers, countless cousins and my own 2 kids any harm.

Im so sick and tired of rules.

All i suggest is do what YOU feel is right. Obviously follow guidelines when it comes to quantities as too much powder not enough water can make baby ill.

If your baby likes milk at room temperature then sterilise your bottles, boil the kettle, fill the bottles to the right amount and just add powder milk as needed. Then each bottle is fresh.

Empty any left over water after 24 hours.

Its so easy to get confused and frustrated with all this changing conflicting advice, i have lost count of the amount of times i havetold midwifes and health visitors to sod off - i'll do it my way - the way i've always done it, never mind these new bloody rules.

oh, i stopped with just having water in the botles and adding formula as you need the water to be hot when adding the forumla as it isnt sterile. i can see the point of that, thats why i changed how i made them.

sorry for pants typing, i got baby on my lap lol

When I had DD in 2003 there were no "rules" about not making feeds up in advance, so I used to do all the bottles for the following day at around 8-9pm and keep them in the fridge. If I was going out I used to keep a bottle in a cool bag and warm it when needed. Neither of mine like their milk particularly warm.

By the time I had DS in 2005 the advice was to make up the bottles one at a time, but seeing as I have a life, and DD suffered no ill effects from having had her bottles made up in one go, I carried on as I had before. I can't imagine the faff and stress from having to do each one individually.

Plus I only needed the steamer once a day and did all the bottles, teats and dummies (get me - as if I wasn't a bad enough mother to start with, dummies too!!!) in one go. What a stressless life I led!!

    Jxx

I did the same as you Janepig in 2002 and 2004 - neither of my children appear to have suffered any ill effects.

Like Sooz I used the steam steriliser and found it really easy - from what I remember you chucked the bottles in the steriliser added a bit of water and microwaved - perhaps it's changed now?
