JSA- Made redundant, waiting on two job offers, can I claim in the meantime?

Hi, I wondered if anyone can offer me any advice?

I have been made redundant, which is affective from today. I am waiting on possibly two job offers, and if sucessful in either of these, and I decide that the role is the one for me, then the starting date is likely to be later this month.

I have been advised to claim JSA in the meantime to tide me over. Does anyone know if I am allowed to do this, given that I am waiting for an offer? Also, would I be able to claim until I start?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

You can claim until the day before you start either job, as long as you do not work (paid or unpaid, without declaring it) and still look for other work (available for and actively seeking work) whilst claiming but the claim will not be paid until 3 days after you ring up (waiting days) so if you are going to do it... do it quick.

Given the processing times that the increase in the jobless is having you may not get any money until after you start work anyway
    Nothing to see here

Put a claim in asap, because if you delay, they want to know why you haven't claimed and what your living on, better to be safe than sorry.

Fab, thanks both for your replies. I am still effectively employed until close of business today, so we call on Monday then.

    Thanks both!

Hoping that wishing good luck on someone will mean that some bounces back to me:confused:

DH was made redundant and the next day was waiting to hear about two jobs he went for. He didn't get them so the next day called the JSA claim line and they wanted to know why he hadn't called earlier. The result being we have lost one day's JSA

    Hi there

You can actually apply for JSA online here if you want to do it this way:
    http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/JCP/Customers/WorkingAgeBenefits/Howtoclaim/index.html

When you have completed and sent this off online, you should receive a call within a few days, they will go through everything with you and give you an appointment for the jobcentre.

Good luck with this and the new job when you start.;)
