I had an account with Smile that went into my bankruptcy and opened a account with the Co-op. They tried to offset the money but because of the kerfuffle with the OR making us open new accounts, they had to give the money back. Banks seem to either have no clue what they aren't allowed to do, or are taking the chance they can get away with it

dont like the sound of that....so might just take it slow with the account for a while to see how things go.

Update: unbelievably, Barclays have returned the money today, just as they said they would.

Now I just have to wait for them to pull the same trick next month

I'd like to, but Co-Op isn't an option for me (owed them money).

I have a "Cash Card" account at Nationwide which they didn't close when I went BR, but not sure if they'll issue me a Visa Debit card - which I find invaluable.

So I'll have to stick with Barclays until I'm discharged and then I try elsewhere.

If they pull the same trick again, then I'll have to use the Nationwide account.
