Laminate - oh no a step what now?

Hi can anyone offer any advice?

I am laying laminate in my hall and we want to do the same in our downstairs/under the stairs toilet so it follows on nicely with the look, but the toilet has a step of about 7" down into it.

I can lay right up to the edge which is about 3" into the toilet, and i can lay the toilet floor but as the step upright is MDF and is not so attractive I was thinking of laminating the upright as well unless someone can suggest something better and yet still keep the look.

If I do this what do I use on the step edge? I have to use something obviously or the edges of the laminate will get damaged, but what? Threshhold strips don't seem to be the answer and I cannot think of a strip of anything that will, any ideas?

What would the professionals do?

All help appreciated.

I had the same problem. You can get some square edging which slots onto the edge of the laminate. You can put it on the top edge of the step so that it slightly overlaps the upright. Stikatak make it. I've still got 2.5m of it in beech. I think it was from Tops Tiles, Wicks, or B&Q.

you can purchase stair profiles from most good floor retailers in a match exact or close to your floor colour..........floors 2 go do them but not cheap! and come in 2m lengths.......might be able to source better on line. :)
  • I fit lots of laminate and use the stair profile mentioned above.Like the previous poster said, not cheap but does a neat job.

Hi thanks for the help, but am I going blind, where are the prices on that site I cannot find them. Or do you order them elsewhere? Also it appears they come in packs of 10, I would only need one of the 2.7m lengths they offer.
  • You should be able to buy them from Topps Tiles or Floors 2 go,somewhere like that.
