As we have all realised by now that files that were with Wolstenholmes are now the property of individual clients why didn't DWF just send them to the individuals concerned and let them decide what they wanted to do instead of this stupid "prove who you are or you don't get your file" attitude. With so many files and so many people supposedly working on them it makes me wonder how much DWF are going to make out of this nice little earner by dragging this job out as long as possible while people are tearing their hair out trying to sort out this mess.
I have it on good authority DWF are making pots of money!!!! And I just wish the SRA had not messed up so much as the files I need have gone missing!!!!!!0 -
Use your "good authority" to solve your problem......0

I most certainly would if I could - my problem was not created by the area that informed me that DWF where getting big bucks - nor do I wish to move my file to employ them to complete the conveyance involving yet more soliciters would not be of any benefit at this stage. My problem was created by the SRA WH and the Law Society. None of which did their jobs properly!!!!!!!!!0 -
Hi all
I also instructed the WH cowboys on my flat purchase (and shouldn't have been difficult as I am a FTB and there was no chain). I had not heard much from them after giving them my initial deposit on 3 Dec 2009 except for filling out forms and an email to say Birmingham office closed. I tried for most of December to get through to them to no avail , so decided to wait til I got back to work after new year with the decision to bin them off if I couldn't get through again. Well SRA made that decision for me, so spent 2/3 days searching for another conveyancer as well as asking for recommendations.
A colleague suggested PCS conveyancers in Basildon. Their quote was very reasonable so I instructed them and sent all my paperwork, which I had the forethought to scan in and save on my computer, and paid them their deposit.
Two weeks later, I get a call... we are ready to exchange:T. I am thrilled to bits. These guys are fantastic that they could do this from scratch so quickly.
(I know this looks like I am plugging my new conveyancers but I am so pleased I have to tell you about them.)
So once all the deposit has cleared exchange should take place this week with completion mid Feb. As my dad said, I have had it fairly easy considering. I hope all of you embroiled in this WH fiasco get your results very quickly.
And although the 'you get what you pay for' comment is true to a sense, it is very unhelpful and not quite what you need to hear. It stinks that a bunch of lowlives like WH take advantage of those trying to save money in these hard times, though many now have to pay extra in stamp duty tax.
Good luck to everybody in getting your cash back and all other matters resolved quickly (I have also made a claim to the SRA myself so hopefully will get money back soon to pay for current solicitors).0 -

It's much better to select a solicitor by personal recommendation rather than internet advertising.0 -
Well I have some good news, a cheque for the return of my money was despatached to my solicitors on Friday, just spoke to solicitors, cheque has been received and as it is a Law Society cheque the funds are cleared straight away.
My God after 47 days and a meager £17 in interest at a rate of 0.33% (day light robbery comes to mind) but nevetheless I am reunited with my money.
Whilst I am relieved to have my money back words cannot explain the toll this has all taken on my life. For all those who insist we got what we deserve for being cheap, I have a few words of wisdom for you also, "go and drop De~d."0 -

 :j Good for you it's about time we had some good news around here.0 -
Whilst people did not deserve to be deceived, there is the fact that we are all so often warned - "if it looks too good to be true, it probably is". When you consider the call out and similar charges for very simple manual jobs, is it likely that spending significantly less than that on the most important financial transaction of your life will ensure that you get a first class service?
I appreciate that I will receive vast torrents of abuse having dared to post this - but as a retired Solicitor I'm getting a bit fed up with the continuous totally indiscriminate Solicitor bashing. Posters like Kieren saying that we should all be killed, or told to drop dead etc - along with some of the other vile replies that I have received in response to private messages to other posters when I have tried to be helpful to them - does tend to alienate the sympathy that one should feel towards all those who have suffered.
And one thing that everybody is forgetting - all the Solicitors that have been named here were puppets. Yet the unqualified puppet masters who were really pulling the strings have vanished off the radar. Punish the lawyers who have done wrong - yes, most definitely - but don't let the masterminds get away scot free. They cleared £12 million in the mobile phone scam - I dread to think how much COULD have vanished here.
Take an average mortgage at £150K. Take perhaps 2000 files. The potential for missing money is vast, and we'll only know the score when DWF have concluded their work. And as other Solicitors have commented, it's us who will have to pay additional levies next year to balance the Compensation Fund's books. I don't want you to weep for us - but do appreciate that we will feel some financial heat as well, instead of tarring as with the same brush as being totally justified objects of a lynch mob mentality, when this is in fact totally unjustified0 -
Having had several exchanges of communication with Home-Solicitors today, I can report both parties have reached a mutually agreeable conclusion.:)0

I agree and I really hope those behind this scandal are brought to justice - but I won't hold my breath ..... Have they really disappeared off the radar?0
