Rigby and Peller in London were excellent but very pricey when I went there a few years ago. the lady didn't even need to measure me to get the perfect fit and apologised as she only had 14 bras for me to try on in my size. Went there because I was desparate to find a well fitting bra in a larger size and M & S couldn't even come up with 1 at the time.

If you can get to Desborough, near Kettering the is a factory shop on the main street (Rothwell Road?) that sell Fantasie, Freya, Rigby and Peller bras and lingerie and fitted swimware and they always have large sizes. I got three bras for £3 each and a fitted swimsuit for £5 last autumn.

I saw them up to H

M&S are rubbish if you need a large cup size. When I was 14 they fitted me and gave me the wrong bra size. I think they told me I was a 34D though I don't remember since it was a long time ago. I wore the wrong size bra for years and suffered a bad back, a sweat rash where my boobs were squashed together and cripplingly low self confidence since I felt I looked awful and could never wear nice tops. Eventually I was fitted properly by Bravissimo and found I was a 30G. Overnight the problems which I had though were the result of having big breasts, and which I was giving serious consideration to having surgery because of, dissapeared.

You cannot fit yourself properly by measuring with a tape measure and neither can anybody else. This is for two reasons; 1)Different women have different shaped breasts 2)The tape measure technique suggests cup sizes are based on a linearly increasing circumfrential measurement but they are really a volumetric measurement. For the smaller cup sizes it seems to be a good enough approximation but for larger cup sizes it just doesn't work. Bravissimo have some advice on how to find a well fitting bra: This is our 3 step check for the perfect fitting bra
Why isn't my bra fitting me properly?

It is well worth it, I would do it all again! I was a G/H cup and have gone down to a C/D and have never looked back :j

i have also shopped at Rigby and Peller and they are excellent, I have also shopped at the factory shop in Desborough and they are not so good at the fitting. They even told me that Rigby and Peller were wrong to suggest that the bra should be fitted from the last hook, R&P said this would allow you to tighten it as it stretches slightly with wear. The factory shop said you should have it on the last hook. However, the prices are very good but you should expect to pay about 50% less for last season's bra's. The £3 ones are in the odds and sod's/seconds basket.

I think Rigby & Peller are the best. The shop is in the street next to Harrods in London. if you are big like me GG/H you really need a proper fitting. The ladies there are very helpfull and do everything they can to get you the best fit and the best look. When I was very young it was the only place I could go get bras or bikinis (huge tops, small bottoms) to fit me. If you go once and get fitted properly you can then do repeat orders as I they used to keep your measurements on file. The ladies at R & P make you feel normal no matter what size you are whereas everywhere else I have been made to feel like a big problem case. They are also very good for masectomy bras etc. They are not cheap but you get what you pay for. I am certainly not rich but somethings you cannot stint on.

Goodersuk - how I envy you having a C cup!

Hi finally went to get fitted but am a bit confused. Went to debenhans and la senza and they say they don't measure cup size but thought I was an F cup. Then I went to John lewis and she said I was an E cup then finally I went to a privatelly owned bra shop and tey sad that I was a C cup. I don't believe it I think I am just going to stick with what I ave got.
  • Yes you're right Bravissimo are very good for fittings and they are very friendly too.
I have never had a good fitting at M&S. Bravissimo are good and so is Sunflowers in Huddersfield (I make special journey from Oxfordshire).

Something else that I have found is that I can be fitted for a bra (34 F) and in the shop it will fit perfectly. Then I find that after wearing it for a few hours the weight of my boobs makes it shift slightly so that the wires did in under my armpit. I know some will suggest that it should be smaller then and that its too big around my rib cage but there is no way I could go down a size.

I find different 'brands' have differing cup sizes

I was measured at M&S (they were fine with me) I'd been wearing a 38A for years (my own estimation based on a measurement system I'd read about:rolleyes:) they told me I was actually a 36C, & the 2 bras I bought fitted wonderfully & looked great

then I saw one I liked in La Senza's window, went in & tried on 'my' size & it didn't fit at all & looked absolutely hideous, suddenly I'd developed bingo wings  I was about to leave without it when the assistant suggested I try a different cup size, I reluctantly agreed & after a couple of tries got one that was a perfect fit

I now wear M&S 36C or La Senza 36DD
