What sort of lighting do you have in your garage conversions?
I am wanting to convert my attached garage, and was thinking of mains downlights as not much head height. Was thinking of having a dozen, builder has spoken to sparkey who says £20 each to supply and fit. But then said 12 x 50 watt will cost loads to run, any ideas on whats best?
It is approx 16 by 9. And will be used as a family room, but if we sell, will be a 4th downstairs bedroom.
ThanksApril Grocery challange £175
Spent week 1 £29.90
week 2 £62.64, TOTAL £92.540 -

Debt_Free_Chick wrote:Is this a completely separate garage i.e. not integral to the house? If so, you are likely to have problems with the local planning officer - they will be concerned about the prospect of this building becoming a separate dwelling, if you make it "habitable".
I'd contact the planning officer before you do anything
I am aware of this. We are not changing the exterior of the garage, we're leaving the garage door at the front and use the side door that's already there as an entrance so from the outside you won't be able to tell that it's become habitable. After 4 few years they Council won't be able to do anything, so we just hope they won't find out.

Very public spirited of you
Why do you think the Council won't be able to do anything, after 4 years?Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

Because that's how long they have to make you comply with planning permission/building regs, after which they can't force you.

They won't. It's going to be a cinema room and they are invited to the Premiere.
