We made two viewings and then decided to make our offer(s) on the house. We haven;t been back inside since, but have drove past a few times.
We are hoping to exchange this coming Tuesday, and complete next Friday - so I am asking the estate agent if they will let us go tomorrow morning t o measure up, as it is empty (repo) and at least one room needs a carpet. we also wanted to have a look around for potential malicious damage that may need sorting before services go back on.
None of this will stop us buying the house, but next week we will only have potentially 3 days between exchange and completion, and we probably wont have a chance to measure up.
Do you think they may let us do this tomorrow - either by lending us the keys for an hour, or supervising us, or will they say we have to wait until exchange?
Give them a call. Hopefully will have time in day to do it and can't see it being a problem.
Hope all goes ok with exchange and completion0 -

I am beginning to realise the problems dealing with EA's as I am having to sort one out for selling my daughters place and even though they know I have been in the business the standards so far have been very very very very poor.A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build. I personally would think three further viewings is a bit over the top. Even though the vendor is not living there, each viewing will create stress and uncertainty.
Why not wait until you've exchanged, or at the very least until you've got the survey done?0 -

Spoke the EA - they cannot allow us to go ourselves, even if we'd already exchanged, so they will have to supervise us.
So we are going Monday evening, and we'll get as much measured and checked as we can, so we know what we have to buy/do when we move in.
I just hope the guy from the EA is a bit more patient - on the two viewings we had, he didn't do too much to sell the property, and it felt like he had to be elsewhere and couldn't wait to get us out! But have told the girl at the EA to advise him that this visit is not just another look around, and we intend to carry out measuring up.0 -

Chickmug, I have been really heartened by the professionalism shown in many of your previous posts and your post above confirms my feelings that you really do your best to be as honest and objective as possible. Glad to know that even being 'in the trade' doesn't necessarily mean one will find it easy to deal with less competent EAs. Wish there were more EAs like you!“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”

That's their job!
What never ceases to amaze me is how little time people spend at a house before buying it - 2 15 minute viewings seems about average.
People spend far longer checking over a car costing a few £K.
Don't feel embarrassed about asking to go back - either from the EA who's being PAID, or the vendors direct, who, after all, want to sell.
You are, after all, stumping up what, £100K? £200? £500?......0 -

Well a big thank you. I think the difference between me and many I know is I am NOT that materialistic. I also do try and help where I can on the forum. An addictive hobby with which I go in 'fits and starts'. :beer:A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build. I couldn't agree more .... I spend more than 2 x 15 minutes choosing a dress costing around £30 - £50! Most vendors appear happy for viewings to take up to half an hour and for us to come back for a second viewing but in our experience the viewings that have to be done by EAs are much more difficult to arrange and they get very twitchy and start looking at their watches after 10 minutes.“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”

That's exactly the feeling I get from EAs. I'm getting close to exchange on the property I'm buying, and I'm going up there tomorrow for the third time to measure up and detail exactly what is staying in the property (currently empty, everything in there is staying).
My job currently makes it difficult to get back from London until late, and I requested a Saturday to go and spend 30-45 minutes measuring. The EA offered me 15 minutes initially and then eventually "a strict" half hour.0 -
Go as many times as you like, you will be living there, you will be buying the the house.. It costs a lot of money buying a house, why should you feel limited to how many times you view it.0
