  • I get £150 a month for 2 kids.No other contribution to food, outings, clothing, special events.

In your case, there isnt a lot of information. Teenager could mean school age or nearly leaving age. 'Low income' is all relative to each household.

You havent given any other info about other kids, or how often you see the teenager or have them stay over....

There is a calculator on the government website. Put in the income and number of nights you have the child for, and it will give you an estimate of child maintenance due.

Find out yourself, and you wont have to listen to our case histories.

Sorry but do not really want a case histroy from everyone . Stressed out enough as it is .What is reasonable when on a low wage ?

    That's extremely rude.

If you didn't want any discussion of the subject, had you just Googled 'Child maintenance calculator', the first hit would have taken you to the CSA's own online calculator. Might have been a better solution than posting on a forum, if you didn't want people to actually talk about their own experiences.

I'm sorry you are stressed out, but so might the people who are trying to help be.

I think what Stapeley's trying to ask is, is his partner's income taken into account when calculating the payments. Sorry if I'm wrong Stapeley! I don't read anything in his post that says he's trying to get out of paying, just trying to work out what it'll be for his budget.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

we pay 150 a month for a 2 1/2 year old (my OH's daughter) which we expect to rise as we start to be counted as a couple rather than it being based on his earnings. We are going to start a savings account for her to go to university. We also will allow 100 a month for trips with her etc in our new budget.

Well I'm completely  When I read this originally, I thought it was the partner's child's maintenance we were discussing  Re-reading it, the child could be of the OP or their partner

It's not clear from the origiginal post if:

    1) the OP needs to pay maintenence and wants to know if their partners' income gets taken into account when deciding how much.

    2) The OP needs to recieve maintenence and wants to know if their partners' income gets taken into account when deciding how much.

Can you clarify which it is, OP? The two are very different questions!

I get £56 per week for two teenagers (13 and 15) both of whom intend to stay in education (sixth form/uni/college).
ex OH has given me money for extras when asked, which is nice. He has a partner with whom he lives BTW
I pay £25 school dinner money for them each week so not a lot left out of that...
