xbox, better games. Same price really as the gamecube. Make sure you don't spend a lot on the console itself, their worthless now!

XBox is far superior technically, has more games available, more cheaply. Can also be hacked to make a good media centre. Perhaps go onto eBay and look for one that comes with loads of games to help start the collection. The console on its own was being sold preowned in Game for £10 to get rid of them, to give an indication of value. GameCube £15 I think but I never got one.

For a 6 year old, I'd say go for the Gamecube. If memory serves, it has a smaller controller which would be easier for little hands. Also, Nintendo consoles generally have more kids games.

Unless he really wants to play Grand Theft Auto of course.

I nominate Gamecube. Kids love Mario. I'd only get an xbox if you are interested into turning it into a media centre. Games are usually cheaper for gamecube, but you have to look around.

The xbox is better but for a small child of 6 the xbox controller is a big chunky thing for a 6 year old to hold but the gamecube has a smaller controller and theres the mario games, mario kart. Yes you could buy a generic controller for the xbox which could be smaller but then its trying to find 1, heres a list of the gamecube games available but bear in mind its the whole list so check the right hand colum for PAL region

We were in exact same position and went for the Gamecube because there were more games available that we thought were suitable for our son. I'd say definitely have a look at choice of games and what you are happy for your child to play before deciding.

    We have both.

Nintendo games (made by Nintendo themsleves) are always really playable - even if you are really rubbish (like me) - Xbox games can be less forgiving - you die and lose interest......

The Game Cube is very small and lightweight. It doesn't have a hard drive. The disc drive is dead simple top loader - Xbox CD Drives can fail (our first one did).

Game Cube games (and controllers) can be used on the Wii so you don't have to bin them if you upgrade later.

The Donkey Konga Bongos are great fun - well worth buying for the GC or Wii.

For a youngster I'd say Game Cube UNLESS his friends all have an Xbox. As I said we have both - but our children are teenagers and we also have a raft of other consoles to keep us occupied on rainy days.

For the age of your son, the Game Cube would be a better choice. the only problem you'll have (and that applies with the Xbox too) is the availability of the games.

  • Hi!
As I noted yesterday I have both a six year old and an xbox. Regarding the controller issue he initially started out liking the older / bigger controller (much to my surprise) but now prefers the smaller controller S.
    I hope that helps.
