Hi all,
Sorry to be a pain. We have just discovered that our house is full of woodworm, from the cellar to the eves. The skirting, doors, etc are all fine as there has been enough food on the joists for them to munch on.
Here is the thing we moved into the house 9 years ago and to get the mortgage granted we had to agree to have the woodworm treated before we moved or they wouldn't release the funds. This was done through our lawyer who arranged for the company to come out and treat the house, we then got the mortgage granted and moved in. We were given a guarantee for 10 years I think it was but will need to check.
Anyway we discovered woodworm in the bathroom and got someone out to check and the whole house is riddled with woodworm and some of the beams in the cellar need replaced!!!
Turns out the company that did the treatment has went belly up!!! We are looking out all the legal documentation but wondered if anyone knew if there was any assistance in paying for treating woodworm? We have checked our insurance and no luck - even got in touch with the local council to see if there are any grants available but no luck.
Any help would be greatly received.

Councils can provide grants but they are assessed on needs and your income. Some of the grants have to be paid back via a charge on your property when you come to sell
Even if you got a grant it could take quite a while and councils tend to be cutting back these days0 -

From what I remember (long time ago) there used to be an insurance you could pay for when having timber treatments that covered you in case of the original firm going out of business. It would have been an extra cost on top of the cost of the works and cover would have been provided by a company other than the people carrying out the works. Do you remember any such insurance? Hopefully you took this out and can contact the insurance provider.0 -

I'm not too sure as everything was done through the lawyer the only contact we had with the company was when they had done the alleged treatment and gave us the certificate. Payment for the work carried out was included in our final solicitors bill so I will have a good look through and see what we have been charged for.
Many many thanks for your help.

I assume my post was unhelpful even though it tried to answer the question "Any Help with costs of treating Woodworm"0

Sorry Antispam I am new to this forum I was actually thanking both of you in my reply thread although I quoted TomsMon in the reply.
Sorry for the confusion and thanks again for your help - looks like I am onto a lost cause though.
