haha I always do Floxxie but needs must. I have been looking at homes and the minimum price for a home of the size we require in a nice area is £130k but it needs modernisation, only interior type stuff, kitchen bathroom etc nothing major. The far end of the scale would be 180 - 190k and of course is a new build. i'm swaying towards the needing work done place but obviously we are in no position at the moment anyway because with solicitors fees plus early redemption on current mortgage we would barely make a 10% deposit on the 130k house. We are obviously in Scotland so it is the O/O system we work with.

We bought a new build thinking the extra we paid for it would be worth it becasue we wouldn't need to do anything in it. Ha, ha, how wrong we were. Personally I would go for the one that needed modernisation; at least you can see what needs doing!

We would love to move as well; not for a larger house but for a different area but we would need at least another £200k to get a smaller place in the area. As I am not 'working' at the moment, we are going to have wait until I'm trained and out in the market....will be quite a few years yet unfortunately.

If your 'Winning at Betfair' isn't helpful, I bet it would sell on eBay!

Haha never thought of that. I am currently getting DH aka the dustbin to write a list of all the treat type things he enjoys eating so i can do a bit of baking. I am fed up of him nipping to tesco and spending a tenner on processed garbage.

:rotfl:that's what I did last week. I have developed a really sweet tooth so now bake cakes and biscuits 'for the kids' but end up eating lots at night. At least it saves money ;) but not my waistline unfortunately.

They are so so yummy. i now make some with choccy chips, and some with cherries too. You need a lockable tin for them ideally one with a time release lock so they last.

It used to be accepted that you pay about 20% premium for a new build over an existing property, but of course the most important consideration is location, location, location...

The advantage of one requiring work is the spread of costs, provided you can save rapidly enough for the work and can live in the place whilst waiting for the time to arrive when you can pay for it?

the 130k house only needs cosmetic changes and what is in there is usable just not to my taste. think coloured bathroom suite and 80's style brown and beige kitchen. artex on the ceilings and painted woodchip on the walls some rooms even have faux wood paneling. It is not possible at the moment but if it is still on the market in 5-6 months then it will be a definate contender and worth a proper look not just a glance at the property info pack.
