Short term come contents cover?

*home contents. doh.

Hi,
I'm just about to move into my first privately rented flat (I'm a student moving in with three other students) and we have very little idea of how all this inusrance lark works.
From what I gather the landlord ensures the building, and we just need contents insurance for the stuff we bring in?

For the past year our insurance was arranged by the uni accomodation providers, and was done by Endsleigh. Endsleigh are doing an offer where we can get the next 12 months insurance for £12 each. The problem is they won't let us start this offer until 1st August, and our contract started 1st July [we don't move in til 4th July].

From what I can tell, our options are:

- wing it for a month without insurance, try not to burn the place down, and then get the uber cheap endsleigh option from August.
- try and find somewhere that does short term cover, pay for amonth, then switch to endsleigh
- just decide to go with a different company for the whole year.

I'd really appreciate any advice. Especially if anyone knows anywhere that does short term cover!

Thank you!

[Oh, and also, this is my first post, sorry if I've done anything wrong]
