Aldi - Clamping

I have not been ticketed but checking what the situation is as follows
Our local Aldi has a two hour free parking limit. I noticed to-day that a warden put chalk marks on tyres as shoppers left the cars in the car park.
One of the shoppers must have overstayed the two hour limit and the warden had clamped her car.
Have they the right to do this and is there anything that can be done if caught in this predicament.

Someone who knows will be along soon, I'm not sure on the technicalities of the car parking. I'd like to know the reason for the chalk though?A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.
Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

The chalk mark is a note of the time he marked the tyres, for his benefit only.MoaningMyrtle wrote: »Someone who knows will be along soon, I'm not sure on the technicalities of the car parking. I'd like to know the reason for the chalk though?Change is here to stay0 -

Assuming there are suitable signs informing you of this, if none then its illegal AFAKI'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -

Would you be entitled to this or is it against the law.Change is here to stay0 -
It has been said that its ok to cut off the padlock as long as the clamp itself is not damaged. Leave the bits though, can't have any claim for theft can we?I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Absolutely. However, no doubt Aldi employ SIA-registered agents.
Of course, some landowners don't, and legally they cannot clamp, but that doesn't mean they can't - they do. They shouldn't. though.
Cutting of a clamp probably counts as criminal damage, but I think the clampers would be hard pressed to get police interest. And anyway, you can offer to replace the padlock.0
