House Sale Fallen Through - Really Fed Up!

Just found out today that the house sale has fallen through. Vendors pulled out, and we only had the survey done a couple of days ago, so have wasted £500 on that. The frustrating thing is as well that I have transferred my bank to another bank, inc my ISA so thats a problem (transferred to current account in preparation for the purchase) and cant put it back in an ISA. Luckily didnt instruct solicitor so no charges there (was going to do that tomorrow, having got survey results back). Luckily didnt get valuation done either but just feel so fed up. Offer of mortgage expires tomorrow - so I suppose I should get it booked in as then valid for 6 months, but havent found anywhere else yet (obviously!).
This is the second time in a few months that house sale hasnt gone through - last time the survey showed £40k of work so had to pull out, so in total £1100 paid out on surveys but no house to show for it!!
I only heard a couple of hours ago about this.

Yes I know it could have been far worse, just really disappointed so please understand!!0

sorry if it came across in a bad way, i apologise
maybe you will come across another house that you really fall in love withi buy houses ........... any condition.0 -
No need to apologise, I will get over it, just need a few days! Hopefully there will be something better out there, but this house was nice, and a lot of time and effort was taken to get this far (5 offers to be exact) but there will be others. And each time we have a survey they give a discount so the next one will be even cheaper! The added hassle of changing banks has not helped and the only reason we did it was for the mortgage.....
Thanks for replying.0 -
Totally understand what you're going through! Our house sale fell through 2 weeks ago at no fault of our own. Sellers agreed a price, than 5 weeks down the line decided they won't honour the agreed price and wanted more- 17k more. So, we couldn't give more (the house to us wasn't worth the extra they wanted anyway), so it fell through as they were dishonest.
Like you, we have a deadline when the mortgage offer expires, and now we are searching again for a nice house.
I know its a hassle to find another place esp if you had your heart set on the other! But you will find somewhere better!..and hopefully the next seller will be nice ones and not pull out! :-)0 -
Hi
Thanks for sharing your experience, its a very stressful time with so much to think about. What happened to you is awful, and I dont blame you for pulling out as that is a massive difference in price. I cant believe the sellers did that, that is so wrong, and I bet the estate agents were quite embarrassed to even have to tell you.
I will find something better I am sure. And last night I spent poring over the draft survey, its so time consuming. Anyway I like viewing places and the right one will come along without the added problems (of rats under the floorboards which this property did have, and although can be sorted its not nice is it!). Good luck and I hope you find something much better.0 -
So sorry to hear of your failed purchase Poppysocks - I know from personal experience just how annoying and upsetting it is when vendors pull out for no good reason, especially so soon after having the survey done. You would think that any decent person, if they were having second thoughts, would manage to communicate these BEFORE the potential buyer pays out for a survey, not a few hours afterwards!“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”

Ah thanks poppys! :-) Good luck with your house search too! Hopefully some good house luck will come our way soooon!!!:rotfl:
My friend told me that we could get back some of the money spent on the survey, by reselling it to the new person who's buying the house. If you let the EA know you are offering to sell on the survey at a cheaper price, then you could get something back for it? Just an idea though!...
Got a house viewing this arvo!...hopefully it will be nice!0 -
Thanks Dottie. Unfortunately vendors have pulled out of selling their house completely so cannot resell survey (and not sure that can anyway as says prepared for us only) but thanks for replying.
We contacted estate agent today, the vendors have said that they will offer something towards the survey but dont know what as of yet, so will see what happens.
good luck with your house viewing!0 -
That is terribly bad luck and I can imagine how annoyed and frustrated you must be. I do hope you find somewhere else soon, and hopefully even better.
I really think the vendor should compensate you for the survey cost. I know they don't have a legal obligation to do so, but anyone with any decency would see a moral obligation.0
