I dont know that I feel that I have lost anything.
I do feel that my son has lost out though as I never have money to allow him to do so many things.
Ironically, I should be debt free in four years at about the time DS will be leaving school!
I too have had the poor parent guilt thing. But, I look at my kids now (son 16, daughter 14) & they're both happy, well adjusted individuals as they've had my love & time which means more than any material things. Hopefully, my money situation & mistakes that I've made will help them to avoid some of them.

it's hard saying no to the children , mine are young and appreciate my time far more, they don't expect everything, it's hard in the school holidays btu so far I haven;t spent a penny on doing things, we have painted and been to the park, have the kids missed out def not!

I've come to realise that no one is going to remember me and my family for having a nice car, a big house latest gadget, designer clothes, but hopefully remember us as a happy bunch.

folliowng hubbys bankruptcy/failed business etc I lost many sleepless nights and have to say we nearly lost our marriage but thankfully we worked through it.

so yes I'd say we've gained rather than lost anything that I miss............saying that I'd love to go down the highstreet and have a good spend up!!!!! lol..............

    Wow what a humbling thread.

We were so lucky that we were able to implement quite good damage limitation before anything hit the fan. The fact that members can have gone though this, yet still find the time and momentum to actively encourage others in their position is a credit to them.

    What did I lose?

Nothing really because at the time I was too blind/dim to see what I should really have been doing with my money. Probably lots of missed opportunities that I'll never have the chance to recapture. Wasted years and unfufilled dreams.

I've gained a lot more though........I call it the fear factor and it's a promise to myself that I will NEVER put my family in that position again.

  • Feel I have lost out on time with my kids. Daughters 15 and 5 and son 12 miss me when I go to work as have to work extra hours to fund bill payments. Had to give up part-time job I LOVED to earn more money. Debt payments each week amount to about £100 so thats a foreign holiday every couple of months we could be having if I hadnt been so silly buying kids crap that I thought was making them happy!!!

Still you live and you learn and I've learned the hard way. Now I'm so much more careful with my money and am determined to pay everything off so that we CAN have nice holidays in the future and time together. :T

Am well on the road to recovery and its all thanks to ML and this website that I am now so much more savvy. So thanks to all :T :T
