Help with Halifax and Paypal please?

Hi

I received my Halifax credit card statement today. There is a transaction showing 6th June marked as Paypal for £210. I do use this card to purchase things through ebay/Paypal and there are a few other Paypal transactions on the statement which are correct. However I have not bought anything for £210 and when I have looked at my Paypal account this transaction is not on there.

Rang Halifax and explained the situation. The adviser sounded completely unconcerned and said she would send it to their dispute centre. She didnt seem to think it was necessary to cancel my card which surprised me!

Tried to speak to Paypal but their systems are down, need to ring again in 2 hours. I have changed my password and removed the card from my paypal profile, the card actually expired on 30th June anyway, what else should I do?

Bit concerned about it, cant afford to lose £210. Would love some advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

You wont loose your money so you can get that out your mind for a start mate.

You will be sent out form to complete( if it is being disputed as apposed to fraud).

complete it stating that you have tried to contact the merchant which you have.( note down their response when you do chat to them)
Note you have neither made nor authorised the transactions.
Chargeback will be done once its recieved and there we go.

As for the cancelling the card - i would say its a personal choice. Its not something that they would do in the first instance anyways. Purely due to the amount of people that call up saying i dont recognise this and didnt do that and when it comes down to it, transaction represents with all customers details on when in fact they have done it.

Thanks for that. When I spoke to the Halifax I didnt realise the expiry date on the card was 06/09 so no-one can use it now anyway. I guess there are so many transactions going through credit and debit cards these days its not all that unusual. Still not very nice when it happens to you though!
