£1 Pending Payment On Credit Card

A few weeks ago I got a Barclaycard Platinum Card purely for the purpose of making Balance Transfers to it . Today I made the first BT by telephone as there seems to be no way of doing it online despite the assurances of the person in the Call Centre that I could ( cos I can't see any way on the website and trust me I'd rather do it online than have to listen to the guy droning on and on)
Anyway I have just checked my online account and there is a "Pending Payment" of £1. Now the only use I have made of the card is the BT .I telephoned the Call Centre and tried to get an explanation for this £1 but all he could say,and not very convincingly, was that this was a technical method to verify the card and that it would "drop off" in a few days . Now quite why Barclaycard would need to verify their own card is beyond me and ,as I said,I have not used the card other than to make the BT .
I can't get another Telephone Number in the U.K. to speak to anyone who might give me a proper explanation .
Can anyone say if this £1 is connected to the BT or why it would be there?
I know that there are occasions when companies do reserve small amounts to verify cards but I repeat, the card hasn't been used other than for the BT.
EDIT : Just had a thought .Is it possible that the Pending Payment of £1 is not actually a debit FROM my Barclaycard CC by a 3rd party but a payment TO the Capital One CC that the BT was made to, to verify that it was legit. That would make sense but why didn't the guy in Mumbai or wherever he was say that ???

The pending payment thing is quite common and as they say it goes away in a few days.
If someone is try to use your car fraudulently then they aren't doing a very good job by just taking a £1, so I would monitor it but not get too worried as it's quite common.0 -
I'm a longstanding Barclaycard customer.
The same thing happened to me last year, but the £1 disappeared shortly afterwardsPeople who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -

I think actually my own explanation might be what has happened . I tell them to make a BT to Capital One and they send a £1 payment to check it is a legit card before sending the BT amount .
I know small amounts do throw up warnings as Abbey called me the other day about a 61p debit from Giganews an Internet News Service that I had taken out a 10 day trial with so they were obviously checking that card was legit . Trouble was the guy left an ans'g machine message and spoke so quickly in a Geordie accent I cdnt make out what he said and was running round in circles to work out what the tel number was and when I did get through to them the guy said my card had been frozen until I called them ...just as well I hadn't gone abroad in the meantime and didn't know that ...a flaw in their security I think0 -
This has happened to me before with Capital 1. The £1 dropped off after a couple of days and was not debited from my card. Also it nearly always happened when I did internet shopping.
