You see when I lived in a largish detached house, I never spoke to my neighbours, and so couldn't fall out with them, 6 foot high fence, job done.

    Thats ok.

If you neighbours less than 6ft 4"...... :rotfl:

My ideal home will be either detached or semi.... but only if the semi is joined to the neighbours at the stairs side of the house. People running up stairs is annoying, but at least it's a buffer from the main living room noise as you have 2 hallways between your living room (and hopefully bedroom too) and theirs.

Off topic PN, but my semi was joined stairs side, and though it is better, you can still hear quite a bit to be honest. A large proportion of the reason that I moved to a detatched - but all things depend on decent neighbours, and I have been lucky with all of mine.

Fairly uncommon to get semis like that though. Traditionally the stairs are against the outer side walls with the lounge rooms adjacent to each other. Usually this is for chimney purposes (but not always).

    Rob :)
I've seen quite a lot.... I'll go now and randomly look at houses within 1 mile of where I am... see if I can guess which are which way round.

Had a quick tot up, 10/50 appeared to have stairs adjoining. It's mostly the more modern ones (1-30 years old) that did so.

You have a fair point Cleaver, to be honest I should have finished my post by saying no one would want to live next to me either in a terraced, because I either like dead silence, or death metal played on 11

"Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?"

    "These amps go to eleven."

One of 'the' classic lines in any film.

Do you think our house prefs change as we age?

I'm a grumpy middle aged git now, and don't have any other houses on my road....no houses = no neighbours , sorted (grumble, grrr)

I live in a semi which is joined stair side......blooming noisy when I am on the pc in my cupboard under the stairs but blissfully quiet for watching the telly in my bedroom or front room.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    i dunno...

Well, Fabio's okay. But I lent Grooverider my Black & Decker Workmate four months ago and I've still not had it back. Thieving, drug-smuggling, drum n bass playing, good for nothing...

I've never had a terraced house, but the two semi-d neighbours I've had (a) stayed there and (b) were extremely quiet and friendly. Indeed, apart from one person who just went doolally, everyone in my last cul-de-sac was good natured and there was real community spirit.

32 years of good neighbours isn't bad going these days. I'm now going detached, but I'll have one neighbour. The next neighbours are over 200m away, so I hope the closer one is OK!!:undecided

I would never buy a terraced house, and if for what ever reason I had to, I wouldn't pay more than 60k for one, to pay anywhere near that kind of money you should wrapped up in a straight jacket and thrown in a padded cell. The problem with these kind of houses is your a hostage to how good your neighbours are, fancy paying 200k to be attached on both sides to someone who has a passion for dance music at 3am.

No thanks, like I say it might be bearable, but only if you pick these places up for peanuts.
if you were offered a 'terraced' in knightsbridge for £60k you wouldn't worry about a strait-jacket....

    HeHe,

Sorry to degenerate the thread, but everytime I see the title, I get an immature giggle inside my head.

I would have to politely decline your request, even though it would be all over before you completed your proposition ;)
