I would never buy a terraced house, and if for what ever reason I had to, I wouldn't pay more than 60k for one, to pay anywhere near that kind of money you should wrapped up in a straight jacket and thrown in a padded cell. The problem with these kind of houses is your a hostage to how good your neighbours are, fancy paying 200k to be attached on both sides to someone who has a passion for dance music at 3am.
No thanks, like I say it might be bearable, but only if you pick these places up for peanuts.
Sorry to be cruel Ad, but do you think this is an example of the discussion that was going on (before children started throwing mud at each other) on the 'what's a bull / bear thread?'. My idea of a nightmare is one of those cul-de-sacs of detached housing where everyone sits in an identiket box and never knows who their neighbours are.
Granted, you don't want to live next door to Fabio and Grooverider, but the reason I would pretty much only buy a terrace house is because I like that community environment that comes with it. And, hey, maybe being close to your neighbours could be brilliant because they're ace? A list as long as your arm could be provided for not buying a house: neighbours could play loud music, might be flooded, could catch fire, neighbours from hell might always have BBQs up the street, people fixing their car outside your house, place might have dry rot... millions of things.
Might be a bear / bull view on life.0 -

thinking about this even more, they'd be out most friday and saturday nights, so you could do as you pleased noise wise.
you'd get free tickets to some of their events.
and if they happened to have a party, you'd probably get an invite.
result. count me in.:grouphug:

It can be difficult in finding the right house, in the right place and at the right price in any market. No surprise that some houses shift quickly.0

My ideal home will be either detached or semi.... but only if the semi is joined to the neighbours at the stairs side of the house. People running up stairs is annoying, but at least it's a buffer from the main living room noise as you have 2 hallways between your living room (and hopefully bedroom too) and theirs.0

You have a fair point Cleaver, to be honest I should have finished my post by saying no one would want to live next to me either in a terraced, because I either like dead silence, or death metal played on 11, I also hate the thought of a community I can't get away from, so the the best neighbour in my eyes is just fresh air or maybe a field:D, so it has to be detached for me, I'm too extreme.0 -

Fairly uncommon to get semis like that though. Traditionally the stairs are against the outer side walls with the lounge rooms adjacent to each other. Usually this is for chimney purposes (but not always).

Right now - after 4 years of Neighbour from Hell - and we are all in oldish individual largish detached houses - my ideal would be a place in the middle of a wood away from everyone.0

You see when I lived in a largish detached house, I never spoke to my neighbours, and so couldn't fall out with them, 6 foot high fence, job done.0
