  • For a used computer of this spec, I would estimate that it would depreciate by 40-50% in the first year. And you can get a new one for this spec for about £800-900, therefore I would suggest offering £400, and perhaps agreeing £450.

I'd offer quite a bit less. You could buy a similar spec new for around £500. Something like £400 would be more accurate for that kind of spec. Possibly even less depending upon the build and graphics card.

Toshiba laptops are quite solid bits of kit. Is there any warranty with it? I wouldn't buy a second hand laptop from anyone (not even a friend) unless there was some sort of warranty. You have to bear in mind you could get a Dell 1300 for under £300 with a DVD writer and a half decent warranty. I appreciate it states 3.2ghz but the newer mobile processors tend to be more efficient.

Having waffled on I wouldn't have thought its worth any more than £400 - similar spec machines are going for 4-500 on ebay so your friend should do you a decent deal (hopefully).

I wouldnt have a problem buying a Tosh laptop. but I would try to knock the price down, searchthe web for comapnies selling recon laptops and see what the going rate for this one is then ask for £50 off it and see what your freind says.

After owning a 15" laptop for the last 2 years I would look at one with a smaller screen now as they are heavy and you will need a good bag to carry it without causing pain.

Check the battery life, the P4 chip will use alot more power that the newer m procesors and centrino but yes the performance is there and it will be much like using a desktop pc. the battery should last about 90 minutes if it is in working order. my laptop battery is knackered as it has spent alot of its life plugged in to the mains and it wont even switch on without the mains connected and the battery is about £120 to replace. if you get the opertunity charge it up to 100% and then let it discharge and see how long it lasts, dont take anything that windows tell you as accurate.

I wouldnt buy the laptop unless they allow you to usit for a full discharge period to see how long it lasts. it will also give you an idea of how the laptop has been treated in the past
