Opening new savings account - best way to transfer money in?

Hey guys,
Just looking for a bit of advice - I've just opened a 1 year fixed rate savings account with Norwich and Peterborough Building Society and received an email yesterday saying that my account has been opened and I need to pay in the minimum deposit within the next 7 working days (I make that next Friday 10th?)
I have a building society cheque for the amount, and I'm unsure whether to pay the cheque into my current account and transfer the money from there online, or whether to send the cheque in the post?
I want to make sure the money gets there in time, and I'm not sure if it would take too long for the money to clear in my current account for me to get it to the savings account in time. I'm equally worried about how secure my cheque would be in the post (although I would send it recorded).
Please can someone cleverer than me help or give me advice?

Post it.
If it's a decent wedge perhaps pay a few pennies more for recorded delivery.0 -
If it is a very large amount of money I would always BAC or CHAPS it over to the new account and cut out cheques all together, but this depends on the amount involved.
If its for a large amount of cash, I would also do as has been said - Special Delivery it.0 -
get the account details off them and do it online.Mortgage Start jun 2007 £88500 Outstanding Balance £51000

Thanks for the replies guys

It's not a huge amount of money, I just want to make sure it gets there in time. Recorded post it is then, I'm off to the post office!:www: Saving for a deposit - Target £30k by 24/03/14 (30th Birthday!) :www:
