Notifying Landlord of housing benefit?

For what it is worth I do have a clause in my tenancy agreements which requires the T to inform me if they make a claim for housing benefit. I have serious doubts about whether I could actually enforce it and have never tried whenever I have found out that it has been broken. This is normally when people stop paying their rent. (It never ceases to amaze me how many people think they should pay money to their credit card company / car loan etc or worse and not to me.)

It is nothing personal - I just do not operate in this sector of the rental market.

N79 - If I hear once more that "I had other bills to pay and so I just used my Housing Benefit" then I will not be responsible for my actions. It was the dumbest thing - well one the dumbest - government decisions. People on high making decisions while they had zero concept of the implications on the ground.

I know I'm not the most sympathetic LL about rent arrears but even I will allow a good T who has communicated their problem to me before the rent is due the month I have to wait to serve S8 to sort things out. If they succeed then I will not follow up on the S21 notice they will have been served when their rent was late. However, if they trot out this line or if the first I hear about it is missed rent then it absolutely guarentees an S21 in the post the same day followed by an S8 and court proceedings on both notices asap.
