Is it worth spending money on a 'good' frying pan?

The heavy pans have better heat distribution and don't wrap easily. To be honest, you can always use pot/pan stand on the table when serving...
I hope to get a Le Creusset one day, although my OH is objecting to the weight and the price...Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -

I brought a Typhoon pan in the Debenhams sale last year - it seems to have lasted well (including the non stick) and very lightweight to handle.
They've got their blue cross event on at the mo so worth a look there

We just have standard stainless steel pans as you don't have to worry about what implement to use and can bung them in the dishwasher, though do need an occasional scrub to get looking like new. The whole set was fairly expensive new, but my parents had it for 13 years and I've had them 3 years and they still look pretty new. We do have one Teflon pan which we have had for years but are careful about not putting in DW and using wooden spatula etc.
TBH I would invest in decent pans if you cook regularly, some people have the most expensive of everything in the kitchen but do NO cooking, literally heat a pizza occasionally! If you cook a lot then it is worth the investment. Have a look in TK Maxx as they always have named brand cookware, such as le creuset, circulon etc etc.0
