Help with credit card fraud

in Credit cards
Unfortunately my dh recently had his credit card scammed to the tune of around £300. This was picked up on his statement and he notified the card company immediately who put a stop on transactions cancelled the card etc etc.
Dh was away at the time this happened (serving in afghan). The card company obvioulsy needed him to fill out a load of paperwork relating to the fraudulent transactions before they could launch their full investigation etc etc. Dh explained he was away where he was etc and that he was due home in approx 4 weeks would they be ok to wait until then as by the time they had posted info to me at home, i had forwarded it on, there was a chance it would cross with him coming home, or if it didn't it probably wouldnt be much quicker to go through all this and be better for him to do it once home. They were quite happy to wait and this didnt appear to be a problem.
He filled in the paperwork when he got home but unfortunately missed off some of the transactions. He filled out another form with the missed transactions and informed the card company of his mistake. They then decided he will need to fill out a whole new load of forms with all the info together, so he filled it all out and sent it off again!
We have today been told they will only refund approx a third of the fraudulent transactions and we are expected to cover the rest of them. Can they do this? I'm disgusted!

What reason are they giving for not refunding the others ?0

Here’s what I’d do:
- Put everything in writing, keep a copy and send the letter recorded.
Then ask them to confirm the following:
How were these transactions carried out? Was it your husband’s card details that were used to perpetrate the fraud or was his card, or a cloned card and PIN or Signature used?
I’d also make a point of going to the local police; explain that you are now the victims as the card company are refusing to refund your loss. Get a Crime Reference or Incidence Number and include this in your letter.
Have the card company confirm they’ve reported the fraud to the Police and ask them for the details.
If this doesn’t work I’m afraid you’ll need to go down the Financial Ombudsman Route and don’t hold your breath – Expect it to take up to a year.
Good Luck:

That's horrendous. So no incentive for CC companies to upgrade their security, monitor transactions etc, if their customers are expected to bale them out for 2/3 of the stolen money?
You're lucky it wasn't a lot more than £300.0 -
thanks for the advice.
They have acknowledged the whole amount was due to fraud but saying the time was over 90 days between fraud being reported and paperwork being completed for some of the transactions, hence why they have refunded some and not others.
They were told there would be a delay in paperwork initially due to my dh being in afghan and at no point were we told this would cause a problem they were fine with it!
Its in the hands of the complaints department at the moment who are supposed to get to us within 72 working hours so will see what they say but just want to know where we stand.
The transactions were all made via the internet for itunes so assume someone must of got hold of his card details.0
