Nope. Even if the neighbours don't complain to the council you're operating a unlicensed business, existing traders will if they clock your game. Or they may just give you a 'frightener'

What sort of licence do motor traders have?

Who are these "existing traders" ? The Kray Twins ???
Whats this license you need from the council ????
It's not just about the money

If he just bought and sold cars for his own personal use then he wouldnt need to pay tax, he could buy one car for his own use and sell the next day,,surely no limits to this at all

Very naive way of thinking, if that were the case we would all be doing it.
Give it 3 months and a p*ssed off neighbour will alert the council and tax office.
You only have to look at the online auctions like e-bay , the taxman and customs & excise are looking into all the traders on there.
At the end of the day , it will be classed as a business and earnings....

I know someone who deals in cars as a part time hobby sort of thing. There's no law against you buying a car and deciding to sell it some time later. Just don't do too many in a year.
    Happy chappy

Well the "real" ones have motor traders insurance policy which can easily cost £2.5k a year..
You dont need a licence as such.I have also been told by a solicitor that even if you sell a car "sold as seen" if you know there is a problem with it , there may well be a legal case to answer too.

Advertising.....after a few cars in Auto trader they will class you as trade which will show in the advert.
Where to get cars from....if planning on using auctions and getting cheaper fees as a buyer you will need trade account and proof of business and insurance.
    Trade plates.....if driving untaxed cars.
Get a reliable mechanic for when cars come back with faults(and they will!!!!)
Wouldnt recommend pretending its your own car...log books dont lie(not legit ones)
 Am thinking of a new one:beer:

How do you intend to allow punters to road test the car out ??? no motor traders policy means they will have no insurance on the road !!
Its doubtful there own insurance policy will cover them as more and more companies are removing RTA insurance cover from motor policies .

Believe me there are better ways of earning a bit extra cash

I am not knocking you for suggesting it but go in with your eyes open and think of the consequences of if you do not do it correctly
