passwords and cookies

Hi All.
I hope someone can shed some light on this problem i've got.
When i log on to a site, such as this, i'll put in username and password and save the info.
When i come back to the (any) site it asks for username and password again?
I'm using vista and back with IE 7 as i thought IE 8 was the issue.
Any help would be great.

This might help, but it'll effectively destroy any changes you've made to IE in the process. Have you considered using a different browser instead?

I've destroyed most of the changes =o/ lol
It had crossed my mind to use a different browser.

It will probably be because your security setting for IE is set high - you are not allowing the cookie that files your log-in details to the site to be recorded - therefore the "remember me" tag on the log-in page for the site will not work

Look in Internet Explorer, toolbar for "Tools" then "Security" and see if it is set above Medium. If it is, adjust downwards to Medium.

I use firefox so I can destroy all cookies on exit.

Do you really want cookie logins on your machine until they expire ?

Reset never worked.
Security is set to medium/high which is what it always has been set to, and saved my login details.

At the moment when i exit IE it clears all login details.
As for having cookie logins, why not? i dont save any for sites that could be used without my consent, i.e paypal/ebay etc no passwords are saved for such sites.

edit: Even google's open searches in new window wont save my preference?
