Hi
I may need a new catalytic convertor for my 106 as the service report indicated that it was leaking*.

Peugeot have quoted £700 replace it - however I've no experience of replacing these parts (and Google hasn't helped for once!) so can anyone suggest how much this is likely to set me back at an independent garage? How important is it that this is fixed?

* I can't see anything leaking from it - should I be able to 'see' it?

Edit - I should mention it's a 2002 model.

Thanks

I would just call a couple of local independant garages and ask what they would charge. They might also explain a little more about the reasons for having to have it changed.

you should be able to hear it if its leaking.
fiance got a cat fitted on her 206 from an independant for £140.
dont go to the dealer for this, get to a local independant tyre and exhaust place.
    ...work permit granted!
  • dont take your car to peugeot or any main dealers, the are generally thugs

I would pay 150 top whack for a new one fitted

go to your local motor factor. they will charge you about £60 for the cat, don't forget new gaskets as well.

then a local garage should charge £60-£100 to fit it

I've had a few Peugeots over the years and would never, ever, get the dealer to replace parts, especially at that price! As its been said, an independent garage will probably be a lot cheaper.

You may also be able to get one from a motor factor place or a company called GSF car parts (a google search should find them) - they sell parts for german, swedish and french cars, hence GSF. I used them a lot when I had an old 205 GTI.
