Cheers Soolin. It was actually the OFT link I was looking for though. I'll check tomorrow at work for it.

Actually suefull? Or possible, just about, slightly, on occasion useful?
I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.

    In summary

Some cc cos will allow Section 75 claims, some won't [Financial Ombudsman supports 'not covered by section 75']

ALL cards have to allow a chargeback [even Payapl admit this] - but there is a time limit [120 days iirc]

One consequence of forcing a chargeback is that eBay will [possibly/probably????] close your ebay acct.

This might partly explain why you sometimes see perfectly good ebayers with 100% feedback who suddenly end up as NLARU??

Does anyone have a feel for how often this actually happens?

So it's been established that the best way to use Paypal [if you have to] IS with a cc [even though you're not as fully protected as for 'direct transactions'???

    In order of preference......

CC direct to the merchant [most merchant can take cc's over the phone]
Paypal - funded by cc [BTW don't leave 'cash' in here if you sell as well]

I would recommend NOT using ....

Paypal - topped up with cash
    Chq/cash/postal orders
    Western Union/Worldpay -electronic money

Not sure about interbank transfers etc - what protection is there [less than cc for definite]

    HTH
  • Thanks for all the good info :)

I don't think it actually happens very often, I didn't even get a warning when I was going through the procedure.

Another forum I use have a number of people going through S75 for refunds on MJ tickets where sellers are refusing to sell and one emailed paypal support about doing a claim and got the standard warning back about yes it is possible to reclaim under S75 via paypal but that it is against the user agreement they signed up to and may mean their account is reviewed and closed.

I wouldn't buy anything expensive once I had exhausted your 1st two payment options. If I cna't involve my credit card somewhere then I don't buy.
