When you power it up can you hear the drive spin up at all?
Have you tried plugging it in to another PC just in case?

There are a number of things it could be your best bet if not technically minded is to find a friendly local computer shop (not PC World) and see if they can help

How often did the Iomega get moved.
is the cable fixed or can you change it
    faulty cable, simple fix.
taking it apart, erm, you'll problably need a T8 or T7 or even a T6 torx screwdriver (can be bought from cheapshops for £2 for a complete set from T4-T10)or a Philips, you have to remove the feet, the rubber bits underneath to be able to get to the drive inside.
Then you need to carefully pull the case top of, and check the cable to make sure it didnt come loose, power and data. if it did, push back in, and connected up to the computer.
    see if that works.
You didnt say how old it was. Does it have a fan, could be the fan is dirty and its over heating, remove the dust and try again.
Powerlight, is that on the main adapters on the BLOCK or on the actual external that lights
usually theres 2, one of the main adapter so you can see its getting power and one on the external.
finally, preprepared for bad news, if its none of the above, there is only 2 things it could be
    the
    1. the PCI board inside the caddy has gone.
    2. harddrive has died.
To check, remove harddrive from caddy, and insert into PC and see if it powers up and is seen by the OS, could be either IDE or SATA connection.

don't take this the wrong way but I wish people would post their OS when asking questions. The path to a solution is OS dependent,

the 2 most likely scenarios are either the adapter/power supply is faulty or the usb controller has died. Easily done if disconnected without removing properly.

try it on a different machine and if that doesn't work try to find a compatible adapter/power supply & usb cable combination.

Thanks for all your reply. Sorry I couldn't reply immediately as I had a problem with internet.
I have been connecting the HD drive to my Dell Laptop [Windows XP] and never had a problem. This is just moved for the first time, as I moved this to a different room.
When the power light is on, I can hear the drive spin but doesn't last long. But the power light keeps blinking.
I may try with different machine, but looking into your replies sounds like hardware problem
    Any more suggesstions, please
