Privacy Guard & Barclaycard

Hi,
Can anyone tell me if they have come across Barclaycard releasing their credit card details to a firm called Privacy Guard who then charge the credit card account with a monthly debit? There is some apparent pretext that the co. then watch your card account and advise you of any impending legal or illegalities?

Interesting that their T&C's invite you to call them for advice if you suspect identity theft and say their advisors will tell you to report this to the police within 24 hours of discovery.

Unfortunately, the advisors are only available from 8 till 8 Mon thru Fri and just Saturday morning. So if you were to suspect id theft on Sat afternoon and call them, they won't be there. When you call on Monday morning you'll find you haven't notified the police within 24 hours...

Hmmmm....wouldn't common sense tell you to contact the police within 24hours?!
  • RUN AWAY VERY VERY FAST!

These scammers sent a letter to my mother (94), a Barclaycard customer. She gave it to me and I told her not to apply. For good measure I fed it through my shredder.

Three months later she was charged £7.99 x 3 on her Barclaycard account. This was taken by Privacyguard. They have continued to take £7.99 per month.

She rang Privacyguard and told them to stop stealing her money. They refused. I rang them and they refused. We both rang Barclaycard and were told there was "nothing they can do about it" and we must take it up with Privacyguard. I visited our bank and they said the same.

Recently she left her card in a shop. We had it replaced. Now they are getting stroppy because they can no longer steal money from her to provide non-existent cover that was never applied for on a card that no longer exists.

See Google for endless complaints about these scammers.

Be warned that now Barclaycard are in bed with another bunch, when the replacement card arrived we were instructed to ring to acknowledge receipt and it transpires the people you are told to ring are NOT Barclaycard but another "insurance" company who will try to sell you a different identical scam . . .

. . . we now appear to be getting a lot of sales calls and scam emails. I suspect our details have been sold on.

    Totally Not Impressed.
