Hi, I wonder if anyone on here has any experience with debt collectors.
I received a letter today from a company named "pastduecredit.co.uk" which has requested me to phone them up "regarding an important matter" The number is an 0871 number, an no other information is given, except for opening times and a case number.
Does this sound dodgy? Has anyone received a letter from a debt collector before? I would expect they should lay out the resason for the contact in their letter.
I have just checked my online credit report and noticed nothing untoward, all payments up to date, no recent searches, no unsettled debts.
I'm certain we have not missed any bills recently, as have not received any reminders.
Can anyone help?

Personally, I'd bin it. Was it addressed to you by name?0

I wouldn't ring them at all. It's up to them to prove you owe any money, and these letters are normally a phishing exercise sent to people with similar names etc in the hope they get the right one...
If you're confident you don't owe the money, I would ignore it as it's nothing to worry about.
If you have any more, or they start pestering you, have a look on the dfw board as there are plenty of people getting these sorts of letters. Mosrt important thing is not to ring them or give them any details at all.96 items decluttered so far in 20130 -
Dont call them , if you decide to call tell them that by making the call that you are in no way accepting " liabilty " for any alleged debit , & that you are recording your call for your own security,
Dont give them any phone numbers including your mobile . If someone calls at your home , you dont have to answer the door , they have very few rights , and often resolve to intimadation .... Dont know how they sleep at night really :rolleyes:0 -
If they dont owe anyone, why bother wasting time contacting0

Bin it, or send it back without postage so they have to pay for the postage lol Does anyone bother with debt collectors writing silly letters in so obvious huge red letters, "PAY UP OR YOU GO TO THE TOWER" etc LOL!0

Hi
I used to work in Debt Collection and this doesn't sound like legitimate debt collection letter to me. The letter will always say who you owe money to, how much is outstanding and will usually include a time-frame for you to contact them in (usually 7 days).
As everyone else has said, I would ignore it.:cool:Lightbulb moment: -£9,954.31 Current Debt: £0

Yep - Dodgy. Definitely.

Dont the sound of that letter at all
All the information should be freely availble in the letter, you shouldnt have to call up for it'Sometimes you just need to keep your mouth shut':j0
