Dell 9400 and Dell 6000 Inspiron are both unable to open this website correctly. http://www.sky.com/skynews/home
The text overlaps so the page is unreadable. The 6000 also ran the site's video clips in either outline pink-blue-green psychedelic colours (audio ok) or black screen. The 9400 resolution had to be lowered from its native 1900x1200 approx to 1280 x 800 to view the site without distortion. Normal widescreen res of 1400 x 900 was very blurry on all websites.
The Sky website works ok on a friend's widescreen mac laptop as do the videos for the moment (until next WMP upgrade he thinks when compatibility may be an issue). If you have a widescreen laptop with good resolution please would you check if you can open the site and watch the vidclips ok and let me know what type of laptop you are using and its screen res?
Macman thinks it's the website that is at fault but advises it will open on some PCs,just not others eg Dell
Sorry but I need to access all media sites daily for work. I am disappointed as Dell has good prices if not customer support for its laptops
cheers, thanks everyone for your help yet again

I have a Dell Inspiron 1300 widescreen running ie6 and it displays fine for me and as with mercilesskiller, there is a large band of blue on the right hand side padding out the space. Not sure what to suggest but don't think upgrading to ie7 will necessarily help. It's easier to get forgiveness than to ask permission0

thanks! The 6000 had 1600 x 1200 and the 9400 Inspiron even higher 1900 x 1200 or thereabouts. The 6000 didn't work at all; the 9400 was ok at 1280 x 800 but nothing higher. Maybe I was just unlucky?
Is IE7 better than IE6? I might try Firefox, thanks for the tips and for checking0 -

ivealways been a firefox user but firefox is a more demanding program in terms of memory.
So i decided to test IE7 on a new laptop which i would format with any problems anyway.
I must say, its amazing! it has a tabbing system like firefox where u can see a small screenshot of all tabs open within IE which is pretty neat, and security wise it's a lot better as well!
All activex controls etc are auto blocked, but all u do is click one button on the website to load it... which i think is fantastic for things like popups as they can't auto install stuff onto your pc like with normal IE.
IE7 is a fantastic browser compared to 6. I would definitely say its on a par with firefox if not BETTER
People who are anti microsoft will disagree till they die, but don't knock it till you try it imo... i used to be anti-IE until 7
If you google Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 Beta you will get the download from the official microsoft site all legal etc...
Enjoy.[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."
