Wrong size trainers, can I get refund?

I've read another thread on here about sports direct saying you can't get a refund but wondered if it was different when you bought for someone else?

I bought trainers yesterday for my 9 yr old son but they were too small ( I do wonder whether the sizes are wrong and maybe slightly seconds?) He is always a 2 but these were very tight. We went back and they had no other trainers that fitted him. I asked for a refund as I needed to try elsewhere but was told I could only get a voucher.

He has to have the trainers for Friday so I'll end up spending the voucher on rubbish just to spend it and also buying trainers from elsewhere if I accept it.

Any ideas? I can't believe I can't buy my son trainers and not be able to get a refund if they dont fit.

Thanks

They are correct, unless they are faulty you cannot insist on a refund.

I don't think so - they have already told your their policy.

Ask them if there is a time limit on the voucher, rather than go spending it on things you don't need. Or sell it.

What shop did you buy from? A lot of the bigger high street stores have their refund policy online. I'd have a read of that, and see if it mentions anything about refunds/exchanges in there.

I think in some shops they will only refund if its found that the item was faulty due to a mistake in manufacturing.

I think the clue is in the first sentence!

If you bought online you can return under distance selling regs. It seems you went into the shop? Most shops will give refund as a goodwill gesture, but they have no legal obligation to give you a refund or voucher.
