  • Looking for something for tomorrow's dinner, I was just thinking I must sort out these 2 freezers. They seem full but I cound't find anything.
    Payday on Friday so I will be filling mine. So tomorrow's task will be have a good sort out and see what I have got and what I actually need.
    One of mine is fairly full of cherries. Cherry pie filling and loose stoned cherries. I can't make anymore jam as I have used all my 28 recycled jars.

    I try to keep one section of my freezer available for "use this soon" stuff. When the freezer is relatively empty, I move everything that's left into that section before putting anything new in. That way I avoid (as much as possible) those packages in the bottom that have been there for four years and that nobody can recall the contents of...

    When I'd an upright freezer, I used one drawer for that purpose. Now I've a side-by-side fridge/freezer and I use one of the drawers in the bottom the freezer section for it, but I also have a large chest freezer, and I use one of the baskets in it for use-it-ups. I also use strong cardboard boxes to keep the bottom of the chest freezer organised - I can find stuff more easily by doing that, and I can see at a glance if I'm low on something in particular :-)
  • thanks for the ideas everyone - I am off today to stock up on a few basics as I am sure running an empty freezer is not good

    to start with I'll get the following;
    milk
    bread
    peas
    ice cream

    then at the w/e I'll cook up 4-5lb of mince in the SC and freeze down in small portions

    I am also hoping to get lots of 'freebies' from my parents allotment soon so it'll be good to have some space for that

  • One of my freezers is fairly full of milk as the Sainsburys 1% is on offer at 75p so I bought 8 bottles. It stops the chest freezer being wastefully empty.
