Please help with some advice

Hi, I've put an offer in on a house that's been accepted. (very excited - my first one!!!!!) Just a query though. When i was talking to my mortgage advisor he went to automatically click the cheapest survey; around £250. I stopped him and asked for the middle price £450 as I think the house is quite old (its 1930's). However, there was also a 3rd choice of a full structural survey. Various friends comments say 'go for the most expensive one as its an old house'. However thats £1000!!!!

Was I right to go for the middle one or do I need to make a quick phone call tommorrow!

    I think the homebuyer's survey (which sounds like the one you're getting) is generally considered sufficient for a 1930s property, whereas full structural survey is recommended for houses about 100 years or older.

    I have always gone for a full structural survey with an independent surveyor and its been around £550. The mortgage company then want a valuation, which was £200 but still works out cheaper than the £1000 you were quoted. Just an option as well.

    I would have a full structural survey on a house of that age - but I wouldn't pay £1000 for the bog-standard bank surveyor.
