I'm looking to spruce up my bathroom a little as cheaply as i can which is basically going to involve tiling and jst repainting to freshen it up. I'm looking for plain basic white tiles the cheapest i've been able to find so far is £4.95 square metre ex vat. Anyone beat this? i really need to do this as cheaply as i can!

As far as I can remember Wickes were selling white tiles for around £3.48 per metre squared (inc VAT) last year, and Topps Tiles were selling them for around £3.99 per metre squared (inc VAT).
Hope this helpsDebt at Highest: £11,630.10 (May 2006) Debt now: £0.00 !!!!Married to the man of my dreams :A - Sat 2nd June 20070 -
dont buy the absolute cheapest and look out for discarded lines which are discounted in the tile shop and such like. the cheapest tiles can look dreadful. with all the effort you are putting in, you should aim for something a bit better so that hte overall effect is nicer.
also if you are using hte cheaper tiles, consider putting them up diagonally instead of just horizontally so that the effect is more interesting.
good luck0 -
I bought some in Homebase in September about £3.49 sq metre, have you looked there, Focus were about the same price, if I remember correctly. Topps Tiles do a basic white, but not one near me so didn't check them out.0

Be careful when buying cheap tiles. We thought we bagged a bargain when we found a manager's special in Topps Tiles. The tiles were plain white and looked great. When the tiler got hold of them he put them up and THEN told me that there was a problem with them. They had red flecks on most of them, the glaze was uneven and the glaze was so thin he had trouble cutting them. We were furious with both Topps Tiles and the tiler, TT for selling duff tiles and the tiler for blooming well putting them up without telling us of the problem first - I was in the house at the time! Topps Tiles eventually agreed to refund the cost of the tiles and give us as many new ones as we needed to replace the duff ones and they also promised to pay for the whole bathroom to be retiled if any more probs arose. The tiler refused to play ball so the builder who contacted him called another bloke to replace the duff tiles for us. The bathroom looks great until you look closely at the tiles.
Another point - ask if you can take a tile home and check how it looks in daylight and under artificial light. Our tiles are white during the day and cream at night, the edging used around the window remains white and it looks a little bit odd.I would if I could but I can't so I won't!0 -

i never thought of that!!, great idea thanks0 -
Definitely second taking a sample home and check it out in different lights. It is amazing the difference it makes. Also agree that you often get what you pay ofr so would not neccessarily buy the cheapest.0

B&Q recently had a massive sale on some tiles. We bought ours for £7 a box then when i went to get another box (tilers error) they were reduced to £3.50 a box, so worth checking them out.The curve that can set a lot of things straight is a smile0

You should have bought x amount of the tiles @ £3.50, then taken them back for a refund with the reciept for the £7.00 ones:money:0
