What to use as a proof of value for RM lost item claim?

How would I claim for a lost plant? When grown from a cutting I took the actual cost is virtually nil but getting it to a size to sell takes a year or two.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

So, if I buy an item costing £10 and sell it on ebay for £25 and it goes missing I only get back £10. Equally, if I buy a pair of shoes for £30 and sell them on ebay for £10, are RM going to giv me back the £30 I paid?
I was unaware the claim form had changed to this extent. I thought the value of the item was what it was worth to the person who buys it.
DS and I took advantage of the 'livestrong bands' craze a few years back. At the height of the craze, they were going for silly money. One that went for around the £25 mark went missing. A claim form was duly submitted, including proof of posting from the PO. At that time, RM tried to use their current approach. I complained to Postwatch and they backed down.
I will try to get hold of someone in Postwatch and see what they have to say about this. I am not sure if RM can get away with this, but we will have to wait and see.0 -
It is really affecting Amazon sellers, many of whom like me buy in bulk and can't identify a single cost price for a book. Others buy at car boot sales or charity shops and don't get receipts..it is impossible. I've even bought bulk from a private individual in cash and again would have no proof at all of purchase values.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Receipt printers go for under a tenner on Ebay, so I suppose you can, ahem, 'find' receipts to whatever value from whatever supplier you think is appropriate when submitting a claim.0

In their claim process pages it states that they must be proper receipts? dont know how they would verify this maybe from reg company number or something. I'd assume with the books that somebody mentioned you would have to take what you paid divided by the amount you got before you threw books away and that would give you your value per book.
Its appaling but theres nothing you can do, everybody agrees to royal mails terms and conditions the second we put a stamp on something and put it in the postal system.0 -
Hold on... so your buyers postman memorised every parcel in his container, then gets to the end & knows that he hasn't delivered one & can recall which one he hasn't delivered? Pah. Having you on big style, I would assume because Mr Postie got no answer so left the parcel in the porch so of course there would be no signature & they're the only ones who know that they've got it!0

If somebody's interested just an update that..surprise surprise I didn't get any refund from RM due to inability provide them with info "how much this item cost me" even though they admitted it hasn't been delivered, buyer confirming them how much it was worth and infact value printed of the receipt as well.. One thing I'm happy about it it wasn't anything irreplaceable. So watch out people, RM claims may not be as easy as they seem.0

On the lost in post claim form you must supply ebay auction No, Paypal receipt etc, and if the auction value is below maximum for recorded, thats the refund you should receive.0

junkmayle, well, I did that in the original claim form, and a couple of weeks later they sent a letter back asking for "proof of value" as a receipt or invoice etc again, which i don't have anything to send them back. Buyer told me they contacted him as well. I don't know is it just my unlucky case or others struggle to get RM pay back as well..0

If you have a regular postie and often have packages delivered then they are likely to know if they have one for you (as they'll notice it as they make up their round) and would know if it went missing.0
