does anyone have a barclay's current account with the 'opt-out of' reserve usage element?(an overdraft by any other name).
i want to know if i can legitimately reclaim the charges for using it...at £22 for every 5 days it's uncleared they add up to quite a lot!i was told about them when the account was created after the merger,(i was previously with the woolwich)but since i didn't need it i forgot about it.now that times are hard,i've had to use it,and it's crippling me.any info will be appreciated.thanks.

yes 100% although they won't admit that they are not fair. Furthermore cancel the personal reserve as well.does anyone have a barclay's current account with the 'opt-out of' reserve usage element?(an overdraft by any other name).

hey thanks m8natweststaffmember wrote: »yes 100% although they won't admit that they are not fair. Furthermore cancel the personal reserve as well.
actually i did cancel it yesterday and they've made it into an ordinary o/d,including £70 of pending charges!(which incidentally i have to reduce every month).
though this was welcome i feel, given my circumstances, the charges to date are so huge as to make no sense at all.
so,based on your info,i will go ahead and claim.
i will let you know what they say.cheers!!;)0 -
just got a final response from barclays...no refund

they used a phrase 'no more paid referral fees...'
does anyone know what that means?
i guess the next step is the ombudsman.0 -
Can you type up their final response to you excluding your details.just got a final response from barclays...no refund

they said,
'i have found that a letter was sent to you on 14 february 2008 advising you that a refund of £60.00 would be credited to your account.
any claim of financial difficulty must be related to the previous charges levied, and i regret to inform you that there were no furthur paid referral fees on your account.i am therefore unable to accept your claim of financial difficulty, which has been closed today.
should you be dissatisfied with this outcome,i am obliged by our regulators, the fsa,to bring to your attention your referral rights to the financial ombudsman service.
for the purposes of the financial ombudsman service, our complaint procedure has been exhausted and you amy consider this letter to be our 'final response' to your financial difficulty claim......'
the £60 they refer to i myself begged them to refund, after they rejected a payment of mine while i was in temporary difficulty.they called it a goodwill gesture.it has nothing to do with the personal reserve charges i am currently trying to reclaim.
