Help! HIP problem

Hey MSE-ers,
Was hoping for some help/advice.
We put our flat on the market 18 months ago and when doing so the agents came round and told us that the HIP would be free if we did it through them. A couple of days later my partner signed the agreement..without reading it (unbelievable, I know, don't get me started).
Fast forward a year, we've finally taken the place off the market and have just been hit with a bill for the HIP - £750+vat.
Guys, I know this is our fault (it's clearly stated in the agreement) but I was wondering if y'all knew of any recourse for this ridiculously overpriced HIP.
Thanks,
AGx

Hi Animalgirl, doesn't help you but I got stung in a similar way. Ours was apparently free but turned out that was only if it sold in 9 months - which it didn't. We got a bill for £550 which my ex said he couldn't afford to contribute to so I had to pay for the lot. Knowing what HIPs actually cost to buy I would steer clear of one provided by the EA in the future just in case.0

Is your partner the same person as my partner by any chance?
I once came home and found a loan shark in our living room having tea and about to seal some dodgy loan ..... WE DIDN'T NEED ANY MONEY!
He changed the gas supplier because .... "the guy knocked on the door and said it would be cheaper"
He left the front door open while going out back to look for money to pay the criminals at the door £10 for an old tatty dosh cloth ....
... Sometimes you can get out of thing by saying, sorry my partner is a complete retard. Unfortunately, in this HiP case, it sounds like you're stuck with the fee

It's a bit unfair to blame your partner, you obviously didn't read the agreement either.
